Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible condition that requires hemodialysis therapy along with strict dietary and fluid regulation. Dietary adherence plays a crucial role in slowing disease progression and maintaining the nutritional status of patients. However, many hemodialysis patients fail to follow dietary recommendations, putting them at risk of malnutrition.
This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSU ‘Aisyiyah Ponorogo, totaling 72 individuals. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 42 respondents. Data collection took place from May 27 to June 27, 2025, using a dietary adherence questionnaire and a nutritional status screening form. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test.
A total of 31 respondents (73.81%) had low dietary adherence, while 11 respondents (26.19%) had high adherence. Nutritional status results showed that 34 respondents (80.95%) were malnourished, while only 8 respondents (19.05%) had good nutritional status. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between dietary adherence and nutritional status (p < 0.05).
There is a significant relationship between dietary adherence and nutritional status among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Ongoing education and individualized nutritional counseling by nurses and dietitians, along with family involvement in monitoring patients’ dietary intake, are essential to improve adherence, enhance quality of life, and prevent further complications
