Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease that is common in the elderly and carries a high risk of developing cardiovascular complications. One non-pharmacological strategy that can be used to control blood pressure is hypertension exercise. However, its effectiveness is highly dependent on the level of compliance of the elderly in participating in the exercise. This study aims to determine the relationship between compliance with hypertension exercise and blood pressure stability in elderly Prolanis participants in Bungkal District. Using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, a sample of 45 elderly people was selected. Data were collected through an adherence questionnaire (modified from the MMAS-8) and blood pressure measurements categorized into four levels of stability. The results showed that 69.9% of the elderly had a high level of compliance with hypertension exercise, 22.2% had a moderate level, and 8.9% had a low level. Meanwhile, respondents' blood pressure was divided into the categories of normal stable (57.8%), mild stable (15.6%), moderate stable (22.2%), and unstable (4.4%). The Spearman Rank test produced a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between compliance with hypertension exercise and blood pressure stability. The higher the level of compliance, the greater the likelihood of stable blood pressure. This study emphasizes the importance of education and regular monitoring by community health centers for elderly with unstable blood pressure. The Bungkal Community Health Center is recommended to conduct regular follow-up, monitor exercise attendance, and provide ongoing education to improve elderly compliance with the Prolanis program and improve their quality of life.
