Abstract

ABSTRACT
The sanding machine is a machine that works using electrical energy and sandpaper as abrasives for metal specimens. Sanding is a stage carried out to remove corrosion and smooth the surface before being examined. The main purpose of making this sanding machine is to help and simplify the sanding process. The main materials used to make the sanding machine are electric motors, angle iron, galvanized plate, shafts, pulleys, belts (V-belts), bearings, aluminum discs, dimmers, water pumps, flexible water taps, and sandpaper. The method of making the machine starts from needs analysis, material selection, power planning, selection of pulleys and belts (V-belts), working drawings, machine construction and testing. This sanding machine has specifications of 600 mm in length, 400 mm in width, and 730 mm in height. The main driving source of the sanding machine is a 0.25 HP electric motor with a speed of 1400 rpm. Sanding test using 4x4 angle iron metal specimen cut to a size of 35 mm, disk speed 950 rpm and 5 stages of sandpaper replacement starting from sandpaper grid 100, 220, 500, 1000, 2000, each sanding is done for 2 minutes. The results of the fifth stage of sanding with grid 2000 resulted in a friction force of 0.792 Nm and a sanding power of 0.059 kw = 0.079 HP. From the test results, the 4x4 angle iron was clean and shiny and the sanding results met the requirements for metallographic testing.
