THE EFFECT OF OPEN UMBILICAL CORD CARE ON THE DURATION OF ULMATIC CORD REMOVAL IN NEWBORN BABIES
IN THE PERINATOLOGY ROOM
MUHAMMADIYAH PONOROGO HOSPITAL

Newborn care is crucial for maintaining the baby's health. Newborns require care to increase their chances of a successful transition, including umbilical cord care. The WHO recommends using dry or open cord care for safer cord care and to prevent cord infection. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of open cord care on the duration of cord separation in newborns in the perinatology ward of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo General Hospital.
This study used a quasi-experimental design with a post-test-only non-equivalent control group. The study was conducted in the perinatology ward. The population and sample were 46 newborns who met the criteria: 23 in the intervention group and 23 in the control group. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Observation was used as the instrument, and analysis was carried out using the Man-Whitney test.
The results of the study on the effect of open umbilical cord care on the duration of umbilical cord release in newborns in the perinatology room of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo Hospital showed that open care (intervention group) had an average duration of umbilical cord release of 5.74 days in the fast category (≤7 days), while closed care (control group) had an average duration of umbilical cord release of 7.65 days in the slow category (>7 days). Data analysis using the Man Whitney test obtained a p value = 0.000 which means p value <α = 0.05 meaning Ha is accepted, it can be concluded that there is an effect of open umbilical cord care on the duration of umbilical cord release in newborns in the perinatology room of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo Hospital.
