Patient safety has become an issue since the increase in adverse events. Implementing a patient safety incident reporting system is crucial in hospitals to reduce the incidence of patient safety incidents. One factor influencing incident reporting is motivation. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between motivation and patient safety incident reporting behavior (PSI) in inpatient wards at Siti Aisyah Islamic Hospital, Madiun.
The research method used a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional approach. This study involved 52 respondents from eight wards and was selected using simple random sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire to measure nurse motivation and inpatient nurse reporting behavior. Data analysis used SPSS computerized statistical testing with a chi-square correlation test and a significance level of 0.05.
The results showed that 25 nurses (48.1%) had positive motivation, and 30 nurses (57.7%) had positive behavior. A p-value of 0.002 <0.05 indicates a significant relationship between motivation and inpatient nurse patient safety incident reporting behavior at RSI Siti Aisyah Madiun.
The study's findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between nurses' motivation and their behavior in reporting patient safety incidents. Nurses with higher levels of motivation tend to exhibit better and more proactive reporting behavior regarding incidents that occur. This finding underscores the importance of enhancing nurses' work motivation for example, through managerial support, recognition, and a positive work environment to foster a stronger patient safety culture within healthcare facilities.
