NURSING CARE FOR POSTPARTUM MOTHERS WITH CESAREAN SECTION EXPERIENCING A NURSING PROBLEM OF CONSTIPATION RISK
(A Case Study in Melati Ward, Darmayu General Hospital, Ponorogo)

Risk of constipation is a potential nursing problem commonly occurring in postpartum mothers who undergo a cesarean section (SC), caused by the effects of anesthesia, decreased physical activity, and the use of analgesics. If not properly managed, this condition can hinder the recovery process. This study is a case study aimed at providing nursing care to a post-SC patient with the nursing problem of risk for constipation. The method used is the nursing process, which includes the stages of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the study was Mrs. D, a post-SC patient treated in the Melati room at Darmayu General Hospital Ponorogo for five days, from April 22 to 26, 2025.
The assessment results showed that the patient experienced anxiety about the surgical wound opening when moving, and bowel sounds were recorded at 4 times per minute. Nursing interventions focused on preventing constipation through education about early mobilization, increasing fluid and fiber intake, and monitoring elimination. After five days of intervention, the patient was able to defecate, bowel sounds increased to 12 times per minute, and abdominal distension decreased. The nursing problem of risk for constipation was successfully managed through the implemented nursing method.
