Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers in addressing student delinquency based on a behavioral approach at Muhammadiyah 1 High School, Ponorogo, with a focus on grade XI students. Juvenile delinquency, such as truancy, lateness to school, and inter-student conflict, poses a serious challenge in the educational environment. The behavioral approach was chosen because of its effectiveness in modifying behavior through techniques such as positive and negative reinforcement, punishment, modeling, and token economy.
The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews with BK teachers and students, and documentation studies. The data analysis method in this study follows the steps outlined by Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to achieve the best results.
The results indicate that guidance and counseling teachers act as informants, facilitators, mediators, motivators, and evaluators in addressing student delinquency. The behavioral approach implemented has proven effective in reducing maladaptive behavior and developing more disciplined and responsible student character. Supporting factors include the competence of the guidance and counseling teachers, school support, and parental involvement, while inhibiting factors include the large number of other students and students' lack of understanding of counseling services. The study concluded that the behavioral approach, combined with Islamic values, successfully created a conducive school environment that supports holistic student development. Practical implications: Guidance and counseling teachers are advised to continue developing their professional competencies, while schools and parents need to increase collaboration to strengthen the effectiveness of guidance and counseling programs. This research provides an important contribution to the development of behavioral-based strategies for addressing student delinquency in Islamic educational settings.
