Syncope, or fainting, is a temporary loss of consciousness that commonly occurs in school settings, including during ceremonies or sports activities. Lack of first aid knowledge and skills can increase the risk of complications. Education using simulation methods is an effective approach to improving students' skills in responding to syncope. This study aims to determine the effect of syncope first aid simulation education on the skill level of Youth Red Cross (PMR) members at SMPN 1 Babadan.
This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 71 student members of the Indonesian Red Cross (Red Cross Rehabilitation Center) selected using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention consisted of a syncope first aid simulation education, while data were collected using observation sheets based on the syncope first aid standard operating procedures (SOP). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test.
There was a significant improvement in the skills of Red Cross Rehabilitation Center members after the simulation education. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value <0.05, indicating a significant effect between simulation education and improved skills in administering first aid in syncope cases. Simulation education effectively improved syncope first aid skills among Red Cross Rehabilitation Center members.
