Abstract

APPLICATION OF FOOT MASSAGE TECHNIQUE WITH WARM OLIVE OIL TO REDUCE PAIN SCALE IN POST–CESAREAN SECTION PATIENTS WITH ACUTE PAIN NURSING PROBLEMS
AT MUHAMMADIYAH PONOROGO GENERAL HOSPITAL

Section Cesarean (SC) is a surgical procedure involving incisions in the abdominal wall and uterus to deliver a baby. Acute pain is a common problem in post-SC patients due to tissue damage and the release of pain mediators. Pharmacological management is effective but carries the risk of side effects, thus non-pharmacological methods such as foot massage with warm olive oil are needed. This study aimed to apply this technique to reduce pain scale in post-SC patients.
A case study was conducted on a post-CS patient in Siti Walidah Ward, Muhammadiyah Ponorogo General Hospital for 2 days and continued at the patient’s home for 3 days (July 14–18, 2025). The nursing process approach included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention was given once daily for 20 minutes on both feet for 5 consecutive days. The pain scale decreased from moderate (6) to mild (2). The patient reported improved relaxation, comfort, and early mobilization ability.
Foot massage with warm olive oil is effective as a complementary therapy for pain management in post-SC patients. It is safe, easy to perform, and supports faster recovery.
