A cesarean section is a surgical procedure that often causes acute postoperative pain due to incisions in the abdominal wall and uterus. Uncontrolled pain can interfere with maternal mobility, comfort, and self-care. Non-pharmacological approaches such as chamomile aromatherapy are an alternative to reduce pain intensity. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of providing chamomile aromatherapy to post-CS mothers with acute pain nursing problems.
This case report uses a nursing process approach for a post-cesarean section patient with acute pain nursing issues at Muhammadiyah Ponorogo General Hospital. Care was provided in the ward for two days, followed by three days of home visits. The intervention included chamomile aromatherapy inhalation for five days, with monitoring for pain reduction using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS).
Results: Before the intervention, the patient experienced moderate to severe acute pain. After consistent chamomile aromatherapy administration, there was a significant reduction in pain. The patient reported feeling more comfortable, relaxed, and able to resume light activities.
Conclusion: Chamomile aromatherapy has been proven effective as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce acute pain in post-cesarean section patients. These results can serve as a reference for nurses in implementing complementary therapies to improve maternal comfort after surgery.
