APPLICATION OF DISTRACTION THERAPY (PLAYING PUZZLES) IN CHILDREN WITH TYPOID FEVER WITH ANXIETY NURSING PROBLEMS
(In the Ar Fahrudin Room, Muhammadiyah Ponorogo Hospital)

Typhoid fever is an endemic disease in Indonesia that requires special attention due to its potential public health threat. Typhoid fever often affects children. Severe cases of typhoid fever result in hospitalization for treatment. This discomfort can trigger feelings of anxiety and restlessness in children. This case study aims to determine the application of puzzle-based distraction therapy to An.F, who presented with an anxiety nursing problem in the pediatric ward of AR Fahrudin, Muhammadiyah General Hospital, Ponorogo.
Nursing care for this typhoid fever patient was provided for five days, from August 2 to 6, 2025. The nursing care process approach was used. The assessment revealed the patient experiencing anxiety nursing problems. Based on the five-day evaluation, the anxiety nursing problem related to the situational crisis was resolved, as evidenced by the achievement of outcome criteria, including decreased restless behavior, decreased tense behavior, improved sleep patterns, decreased respiratory rate, decreased pulse rate, decreased pallor, and improved eye contact.
It can be concluded that this puzzle playing distraction therapy is effective in overcoming anxiety in children with typhoid fever who are being treated in hospital, and it is hoped that patients and their families can apply non-pharmacological therapy of applying puzzle playing distraction to children to reduce anxiety independently.
