Abstract
Education serves as a medium for developing individuals' potential and shaping their character holistically. The current formal curriculum places more emphasis on cognitive aspects, so it needs to be supplemented with a hidden curriculum that focuses on character development thru non-academic experiences in the school environment. The active role of the principal, teachers, and parents is very important in optimizing the formation of students' character thru a hidden curriculum that includes values, norms, and the cultivation of good ethics.
This study aims to examine the implementation of the hidden curriculum in shaping religious character at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Ponorogo. The research focus includes: (1) Implementation of the hidden curriculum, (2) the achievements resulting from the implementation of the hidden curriculum, and (3) supporting and hindering factors in the implementation of the hidden curriculum.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity checks are performed by extending observations, increasing diligence, and triangulation.
The research findings indicate that: (1) The hidden curriculum at MAN 1 Ponorogo in shaping religious character is implemented thru habituation activities, such as morning prayers before starting lessons, congregational Zuhur prayers, Quran recitation, teacher role modeling, the culture of shaking hands when arriving at the madrasah, and the management of a religious and conducive learning environment. (2) The hidden curriculum significantly contributes to shaping religious values in students, such as honesty, responsibility, discipline, and respect for others. (3) Supporting factors for implementing the hidden curriculum include the commitment of the madrasah principal, the active role of teachers, and the religious culture that is already deeply rooted in the madrasah environment. The main obstacles are the lack of awareness among students due to their diverse backgrounds, and the absence of formal assessment in their report cards.
