Abstract
An ineffective breathing pattern is characterized by dyspnea, use of
accessory muscles, and decreased oxygen saturation. Non-pharmacological
interventions, such as the right lateral position, can help improve breathing
patterns and increase oxygen saturation.
This study used a case study method on a CHF patient with a nursing
diagnosis of ineffective breathing pattern who was treated in the Integrated Cardiac
Care Unit of Dr. Harjono Ponorogo Regional Hospital. The case study method used
a
nursing process approach through assessment, diagnosis, intervention,
implementation, and evaluation.
Results showed that after five days of 30 minutes of right lateral positioning,
oxygen saturation decreased from 93% before intervention to 97% after five days,
accompanied by a reduction in shortness of breath and increased patient comfort.
The nursing problem was declared resolved on day 5, indicated by oxygen
saturation within the normal range. Oxygen saturation was within the normal
range, there was no use of accessory respiratory muscles, decreased dyspnea, and
decreased expiratory phase prolongation.
Nursing care for patients with nursing problems with ineffective breathing
patterns is expected to provide an overview for CHF patients who feel shortness of
breath and chest tightness so that they can apply the right lateral position technique
therapy independently to reduce shortness of breath and chest tightness..
