Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding mothers after childbirth often experience
problems in the breastfeeding process due to insufficient milk production. Efforts
to facilitate breast milk production can use non-pharmacological therapy, namely
consuming sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas) which contain lactogogue
which can stimulate increased breast milk production. The methods in this study
were interviews and observations. The research location was at the Siti Walidah
Room of Ponorogo General Hospital. The non-pharmacological therapy provided
was the provision of processed sweet potato leaf vegetables consumed twice a day
in the morning and evening, each consumption of 200 grams for 7 days. The
results of observations after administering processed sweet potato leaf vegetables
significantly increased breast milk gradually. Providing sweet potato leaves to
new mothers can help stimulate increased levels of the hormone prolactin and
breast milk production. Sweet potato leaves contain lipid elements and structural
components of hormones, which play an active role in the process of breast milk
production by showing the effect of lactogogue. Lactogogue is a substance found
in sweet potato leaves and has the ability to increase breast milk output.
Suggestions for breastfeeding mothers are expected to consume sweet potato
leaves as an effort to facilitate breast milk production.
