Abstract

Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of ≥90 mmHg. People with hypertension experience higher-than-normal blood pressure, which typically presents with signs and symptoms of pain. Chest pain is caused by increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels in the neck, which impedes blood flow. The end result of metabolic waste in the neck, resulting from a lack of oxygen and nutrients, accumulates, causing pain.
Nursing care was provided at Muhammadiyah General Hospital Ponorogo for 5 days, from September 19, 2025, to September 23, 2025. The method used was the nursing process approach.
The assessment revealed that the client complained of pain in the left chest radiating to the back, as if being crushed by a heavy object. The pain appeared when lying down or sleeping. The pain scale was 6, and the pain came and went, lasting 2-5 minutes. Nursing interventions to address this problem included non-pharmacological therapy using electric warm compresses. After 5 days of electric warm compress therapy, the pain decreased to a scale of 1, sleep patterns improved, and pain complaints disappeared.
Nursing care for hypertensive clients with acute pain problems using electric warm compress therapy is expected to provide an overview and benefits to clients and healthcare workers who come into direct contact with hypertensive patients to reduce pain with the aim of overcoming acute pain problems due to hypertension.
