Abstract

Shevia Vera Putri Ariani. Comparative Study of Health Education Using Lecture and Demonstration Methods on Hypertension Diet Compliance in the Elderly.

Compliance with a hypertension diet is key to controlling blood pressure. Health education through lectures and demonstrations can be a strategy to improve dietary compliance in elderly with hypertension. This study aims to analyze the differences in the effects of health education using lectures and demonstrations on adherence to a hypertension diet in the elderly in the Sukorejo Community Health Center, Ponorogo Regency. This study was a quasi-experimental study using a pre-test post-test two-group design. The sample consisted of 90 elderly with hypertension, divided into two groups: 45 respondents in the lecture group and 45 respondents in the demonstration group. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. The research instrument was a hypertension diet compliance questionnaire. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to assess differences in pre-test and post-test in each group, and the Mann-Whitney test to compare the effectiveness of the two methods. The results of this study showed that in the demonstration group, the majority of respondents (97.8%) were in the positive compliance category, with the Wilcoxon test showing a p-value of 0.373 (p>0.05). In the lecture group, 93.3% of respondents were in the positive category with a p value of 0.486 (p > 0.05). The Mann-Whitney test showed a p value of 0.668 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant difference between the effectiveness of the lecture and demonstration methods on adherence to the hypertension diet. The study concluded that there was no significant difference between the lecture and demonstration methods in improving adherence to the hypertension diet in the elderly. Both methods are equally effective but need to be combined with supporting media and ongoing support for optimal results.
