Abstract

The development of village-based tourism grounded in local potential and cultural wisdom has become an important strategy in promoting sustainable rural development in Ponorogo Regency. Bedingin Village with Beji Sirah Keteng Tourism, Pager Village with Sendang Bulus, and Kupuk Village with Sendang Tunggul Wulung possess distinctive natural, cultural, and spiritual characteristics; however, they face challenges related to management capacity, limited infrastructure, and the lack of integrated marketing and institutional strategies. This study aims to analyze and compare the tourism village development strategies implemented in the three villages. The research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results of the study indicate that the three villages have major strengths in the aspects of spiritual and local cultural-based attractions, but are still weak in the aspects of accessibility, amenities, strengthening human resources, communities, industry, as well as branding, advertising, and selling strategies. The development of tourism villages in the three locations is still partial and has not been fully integrated according to the 3A–SMI–BAS approach. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for a collaborative, planned, and sustainable tourism village development strategy that emphasizes strengthening local institutions, increasing community capacity, and optimizing cultural and spiritual potential as the main competitiveness of tourism villages.
