Abstract
Infant massage is a form of early stimulation that is beneficial for infants’ growth and development and strengthens the bonding between mothers and their babies. However, many mothers do not perform infant massage independently due to limited knowledge and skills, as well as reliance on traditional massage practices. This study aimed to determine the effect of infant massage training on maternal behavior in performing infant massage at RSIA Melati Magetan. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population consisted of mothers with infants who attended outpatient services at the Pediatric Polyclinic of RSIA Melati Magetan. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving 60 respondents. The research instruments included standard operating procedures (SOPs) and infant massage equipment, as well as an observation checklist to assess maternal behavior in performing infant massage. Data were analyzed using the Paired Test with a significance level of < 0.05. The results showed an improvement in maternal behavior in performing infant massage after the training compared to before the intervention. Statistical analysis indicated a p-value < 0.05, demonstrating a significant effect of infant massage training on maternal behavior in performing infant massage at RSIA Melati Magetan. Infant massage training was proven to enhance mothers’ knowledge, skills, and self-confidence in performing infant massage independently and correctly. It is recommended that healthcare providers, particularly nurses and midwives, continuously implement infant massage training as a promotive and preventive strategy to improve infant health and growth.
