Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) is a medical condition in which a person experiences loose or watery stools more than three times a day, and they are diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis. Ponorogo Regency, an area in East Java, recorded 1,250 cases of acute diarrhea in the past year, with 40% of patients referred to emergency services due to severe dehydration and electrolyte complications. This figure shows an increasing trend compared to the previous year and highlights the need for more comprehensive health education and interventions for the community.
This study uses a case study approach of Nursing Care for Gastroenteritis Patients with the Nursing Problem of Risk of Fluid Imbalance, which goes through the nursing process stages of assessment, diagnosis formulation, planning, implementation, evaluation, and nursing documentation. Data were collected through data collection via interviews, observation, and physical examination.
Nursing care for patients with gastroenteritis was carried out at RSUD Harjono Ponorogo for 3 days. The patient assessment results showed decreased sodium and chloride levels in the body, leading to the problem of Risk of Fluid Imbalance. Nursing interventions carried out include monitoring hydration status, providing adequate fluid intake, and explaining the importance of sufficient fluids in the body. The implementation of fluid management showed that the problem was resolved, and the patient followed up according to the given schedule. The patient is advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle and increase fluid intake.
