Bronchopneumonia is one of the most common respiratory tract infections in children and often leads to excessive airway secretions, resulting in ineffective airway clearance. Chest physiotherapy is a nursing intervention that can facilitate secretion removal and improve airway patency.
To describe the implementation of chest physiotherapy in patients with bronchopneumonia experiencing ineffective airway clearance at Aisyah Hospital, Ponorogo.
This study employed a case study approach using the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. Chest physiotherapy was performed according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), including postural drainage, chest percussion (clapping), vibration, and effective coughing techniques.
Following the implementation of chest physiotherapy, airway clearance improved as indicated by reduced secretion retention, more effective sputum expectoration, improved respiratory rate, decreased rhonchi, and increased oxygen saturation.
Chest physiotherapy is an effective nursing intervention for improving airway clearance in patients with bronchopneumonia. It can be implemented as an independent nursing intervention to reduce retained secretions and enhance respiratory function.
