Abstract

The organization of sports tournaments, particularly within the Ju-Jitsu Student Activity Unit (UKM) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo, still faces challenges in preparing tournament brackets, which are currently arranged manually. This manual method is time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to document. This research aims to develop a web-based application capable of automatically generating single-elimination tournament brackets using the Binary Tree algorithm. The research method employs the Waterfall model, comprising the stages of literature study, observation, requirements analysis, system design, development, and testing. The Binary Tree algorithm is implemented to arrange the match structure hierarchically, using the formula T = N − 1 to determine the total number of matches and R = ⌈log₂ N⌉ to determine the number of rounds. The system also accommodates an uneven number of participants by adding bye participants using the formula B = 2^R − P. Black box testing results indicate that all features function properly, including admin login, participant data input, automatic bracket generation, match result input, and champion determination. This application successfully accelerates the bracket preparation process and reduces manual errors in tournament organization.
