Abstract

ABSTRACT
The Relationship Between Coffee Consumption Patterns and the Incidence of
Gastritis Among Young Adults in the Working Area of Sawoo District,
Ponorogo Regency
By : Edies Putri Novia
Gastritis is one of the health problems that still frequently occurs, especially
among young adults. One of the factors suspected to be associated with the
incidence of gastritis is coffee consumption patterns. The caffeine content in coffee
can stimulate an increase in gastric acid secretion, thereby potentially causing
irritation of the gastric mucosa. This study aimed to analyze the relationship
between coffee consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis among young
adults in the Working Area of Sawoo District, Ponorogo Regency.
This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The
study population consisted of young adults in the Working Area of Sawoo District,
Ponorogo Regency. The sampling technique used was total sampling with a total of
100 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires regarding coffee
consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis, then analyzed using the Chi
Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05.
The results of this study showed that the majority of respondents had a high
category of coffee consumption pattern, with 64 respondents (64.0%), a moderate
category with 19 respondents (19.0%), and a low category with 17 respondents
(17.0%). Based on the incidence of gastritis, 76 respondents (76.0%) experienced
gastritis and 24 respondents (24.0%) did not experience gastritis. The results of the
Chi-Square test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant
relationship between coffee consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis.
The conclusion of this study showed that there was a significant relationship
between coffee consumption patterns and the incidence of gastritis among young
adults in the Working Area of Sawoo District, Ponorogo Regency. The community
is expected to pay attention to the frequency and amount of coffee consumption and
to adopt a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of gastritis.
