ABSTRACT
Blood pressure is the force required for blood to flow through blood vessels and reach all body tissues. The William Stretching exercise, which has the potential to increase muscle relaxation, improve blood circulation, and help lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension, is the focus of this study, which aims to determine the effect of the William Stretching exercise on blood pressure changes in patients with hypertension in Ngadirojo Village. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of all patients with hypertension at the Karangrejo hamlet health post, with a sample size of 30 respondents selected using total sampling. The intervention, consisting of the William Stretching exercise, was administered four times over a two-week period. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using a sphygmomanometer and then analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents 19 (63.3%) had stage 1 hypertension. After the William’s Stretching program, blood pressure decreased, with 12 respondents (40.0%) falling into the stage 1 hypertension category, 3 respondents (10.0%) into the high-normal category, and 7 respondents (23.3%) into the normal category. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the William Stretching program on changes in blood pressure. The William Stretching program had a significant effect in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This exercise can serve as a simple, safe, and easily implemented nonpharmacological intervention to help control blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
