ABSTRACT
Chronic pain is a common problem experienced by older adults and can interfere with the fulfillment of safety and comfort needs. Physiological changes associated with aging and a history of bone and joint trauma may contribute to persistent pain. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied is a warm ginger water foot soak.
This scientific paper aimed to implement a warm ginger water foot soak to fulfill the safety and comfort needs of an older adult with a nursing problem of chronic pain at UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha Magetan. Nursing care was provided for 5 days using the nursing process approach, with the warm ginger water foot soak administered for 15–20 minutes once daily.
The results showed a decrease in pain intensity from 6 to 3, accompanied by increased comfort and improved ability to perform activities. Although pain intensity decreased, the chronic pain problem was not completely resolved due to aging-related factors and a history of trauma underlying the pain. A warm ginger water foot soak can be used as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help reduce pain and improve comfort in older adults.
