THE EFFECT OF HANDWASHING EDUCATION USING ANIMATED
VIDEO MEDIA ON HANDWASHING BEHAVIOR AMONG
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AT SDN 2 BANGUNSARI,
MADIUN REGENCY

Handwashing is a simple yet effective effort to prevent the transmission
of infectious diseases. Proper handwashing behavior among school-aged
children remains relatively low, necessitating attractive and easily
understandable educational methods, such as animated video media. This study
aimed to determine the effect of handwashing education using animated video
media on handwashing behavior.
This study utilized a Pre-Experimental Design with a one-group pretest
posttest approach. The population consisted of all 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade
students at SDN 2 Bangunsari, totaling 53 students. A total sampling technique
was applied, resulting in a sample size of 53 respondents. Data were collected
using a handwashing behavior questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon
Signed Rank Test.
The results showed that prior to the education, the respondents' behavior
was mostly in the moderate category (21 respondents; 39.6%), followed by good
(19 respondents; 35.8%), and poor (13 respondents; 24.5%). After the
education, the good category increased to 38 respondents (71.7%) and the
moderate category became 15 respondents (28.3%). The Wilcoxon test yielded
a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the education on
handwashing behavior.
Animated videos are proven effective as a visual stimulus to enhance
understanding and foster positive attitudes among students, making them a
recommended health promotion method in primary schools.
