Abstract
ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF VIDEO-BASED HEALTH EDUCATION ON ADOLESCENTS' ATTITUDES TOWARD DRUG ABUSE (NAPZA)
Oleh: Carissa Aquilina
Drug abuse involving narcotics, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances (NAPZA) among adolescents is a significant problem that may result in physical, psychological, social, and educational consequences. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education using video media on adolescents’ attitudes toward NAPZA in Bangunsari Village, Ponorogo Regency. This study was based on the Health Belief Model (HBM), which explains that changes in attitudes and preventive behaviors are influenced by perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. Health education delivered through video media was positioned as a cue to action expected to encourage the development of negative attitudes toward NAPZA abuse and strengthen prevention efforts. This study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population and sample consisted of all 20 members of the Youth Organization in Bangunsari Village, Ponorogo Regency, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using an attitude questionnaire administered before and after the health education intervention using video media and were analyzed using the McNemar test. The results showed that before the intervention, 10 respondents (50%) had positive attitudes and 10 respondents (50%) had negative attitudes. After the intervention, the proportion of respondents with positive attitudes increased to 12 respondents (60%), while those with negative attitudes decreased to 8 respondents (40%). However, the McNemar test showed an Exact Sig. value of 0.774 > 0.05, indicating no statistically significant effect. In conclusion, health education using video media did not significantly affect adolescents’ attitudes toward NAPZA. It is recommended that health education be conducted continuously and combined with more interactive educational methods. Future studies should involve larger samples and include a control group.
