The ability to read the Quran is a fundamental skill that every Muslim should possess. However, many school-aged children still struggle to read the Quran in accordance with *tajwid* (rules of recitation) principles due to ineffective teaching strategies and a lack of supportive learning environments. Rumah Qur'an Yazied Baariklana Magetan employs the *talaqqi* (direct oral instruction/recitation) and *sima'i* (listening/auditory) methods as teaching strategies to enhance Quranic reading skills. This study aims to: (1) describe the students' Quranic reading skills, (2) identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and (3) analyze the teachers' strategies through the implementation of the *talaqqi* and *sima'i* methods.
This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of 20 students, while informants included the institution head, two teachers, three students, and two parents selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman interactive model, while data validity was verified through source and technique triangulation as well as extended observation.
The research results indicate that: (1) students' Quranic reading skills vary according to age and learning level, ranging from the introduction of *Hijaiyah* letters to the ability to read verses quite well, although some still require reinforcement in *tajwid*; (2) supporting factors include teacher competence, a conducive learning environment, parental support, student motivation, and a structured learning program, whereas inhibiting factors include limited teaching staff, a lack of practice at home, varying initial proficiency levels, time constraints, and the characteristics of early-childhood students; and (3) the teacher's strategy is implemented through the integrated application of the *talaqqi* and *sima'i* methods. The *talaqqi* method is carried out through preliminary stages, core instruction involving demonstration, imitation, and direct correction, and a concluding phase; meanwhile, the *sima'i* method is applied through listening, imitating, and monitoring activities. The application of these two methods has proven effective in improving the quality of students' Quran recitation.
