Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has brought significant changes in meeting the academic needs of students, including nursing students. While AI offers convenience for students in completing academic tasks, its utilization without adequate AI literacy skills potentially reduces student engagement in critical thinking processes. The selection of nursing students as research subjects is because they have been equipped with Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) and Information Literacy classes provided by the Library Services Institution, as well as possessing a high risk toward patient safety (human risk), making critical thinking a crucial skill in clinical decision-making. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of artificial intelligence literacy on the critical thinking skills Bachelor of Nursing students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo..
This study employed a quantitative research method with an explanatory research design. Data collection was conducted by distributing a questionnaire via Google Forms to 30 respondents of 8th-semester Bachelor of Nursing students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Variable X (AI Literacy) was developed based on the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students, while variable Y (Critical Thinking Skills) utilized the Executive Summary: The Delphi Report compiled by Facione. Data analysis techniques included a series of classical assumption tests, hypothesis testing, and simple linear regression analysis with the assistance of SPSS version 27.
The results showed that AI literacy has a positive and significant effect on students' critical thinking skills, as evidenced by a t-value of 2.628 (> t-table 2.035) and a significance value of 0.013(< 0.05). The coefficient of determination indicates that AI literacy contributes 17,3% to students' critical thinking skills, while the remaining 82,7% is influenced by other factors such as learning motivation, self-confidence, reading habits, and learning models. Thus, AI literacy is proven to have a positive and significant effect on students' critical thinking skills.
