Oketani breast massage is a non-pharmacological intervention that can help improve the production and flow of breast milk. This study aimed to implement the Oketani breast massage technique in a post-caesarean section mother experiencing the nursing problem of ineffective breastfeeding in the Masithoh Ward of Aisyiyah General Hospital Ponorogo.
This study employed a case study design using the nursing care process approach involving a post-caesarean section mother diagnosed with the nursing problem of ineffective breastfeeding. The intervention consisted of Oketani breast massage administered over four consecutive days, accompanied by education on proper breastfeeding techniques, psychological support, and evaluation using the indicators of the Indonesian Nursing Outcomes Standards (SLKI).
The results of the four-day intervention demonstrated an improvement in breast milk production and milk flow. The breasts became softer and more elastic, breast milk was expressed more easily, the infant's latch and sucking ability improved, and the infant appeared calmer after breastfeeding. Based on the SLKI outcome indicators, the nursing problem of ineffective breastfeeding was considered resolved.
The Oketani breast massage technique proved to be effective in enhancing breast milk production and milk flow, thereby supporting successful breastfeeding among post-caesarean section mothers. This intervention may be considered an alternative non-pharmacological nursing intervention for managing the nursing problem of ineffective breastfeeding.
