Abstract

Gastroenteritis in children can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and fluid loss, necessitating appropriate nursing care. The objective of this case study was to provide nursing care for a child with gastroenteritis experiencing nausea at the Ar-Fahrudin Ward of RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.

The case study employed a nursing process approach, comprising assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 4-year-8-month-old girl diagnosed with gastroenteritis and nausea. Data were collected through interviews, observation, physical examination, and documentation. Nursing care was administered over a period of four days.

Assessment revealed that the patient was experiencing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, lethargy, facial pallor, and difficulty eating. Interventions included monitoring nausea and vomiting, tracking food and fluid intake, environmental management, providing small but frequent meals, family education, and collaborating on the administration of ondansetron. The patient's condition gradually improved; nausea and vomiting ceased, appetite increased, and she was able to finish a full serving of food.

The improvement in the patient's condition indicates that the nursing interventions provided were appropriate for her needs.
The issue of nausea was resolved following the four-day nursing care intervention.
