Daily activity management refers to the ability of the elderly to perform
activities of daily living in accordance with their functional capabilities. A decline
in these abilities can lead to dependency and affect the elderly's quality of life.
Therefore, the ability to maintain independence in daily activities is a crucial aspect
of supporting the quality of life for the elderly. This study aimed to analyze the
relationship between daily activity management and the quality of life of the elderly
at the Tresna Werdha Social Institution in Magetan.
This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytic
cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 60 respondents selected using
purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Katz Index of Activities of Daily
Living (ADL) to measure daily activity management and the World Health
Organization Quality of Life-OLD (WHOQOL-OLD) to measure quality of life.
Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed
that 53 respondents (88.3%) fell into the fully independent category for daily
activity management, and 46 respondents (76.7%) fell into the high category for
quality of life. The Spearman Rank test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (α = 0.05),
indicating a significant relationship between daily activity management and the
quality of life of the elderly.
The findings demonstrate that independence in performing daily activities
is associated with the quality of life of the elderly. Maintaining functional abilities
and independence in daily activities should be a priority in gerontological nursing
care to support the quality of life of the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Social
Institution in Magetan.
