Abstract

THE EFFECT OF ELDERLY EXERCISE ON RANDOM BLOOD
SUGAR LEVELS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES MELITUS SUFFERERS
IN ELDERLY INTEGRATED HEALTH SERVICE POST
OF BELOTAN BENDO MAGETAN

Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. The main purpose of this study is to know the effect of elderly exercise on random blood sugar levels of tipe 2 diabetes mellitus sufferers in Elderly integrated service post of Belotan Bendo Magetan.
This is a research with quasi-experimental approach using one group pre- test and post-test design. The population comprised all patients, totally 32, with type 2 DM in Elderly integrated service post of Belotan Bendo Magetan and 32 respondents were taken as samples using total sampling technique. Paired simple t-test was applied for analysis.
The measurement result of random blood sugar level before treatment is 183,17 mg/dl on average; meanwhile the measurement result of random blood sugar level after treatment is 161,68 mg/dl on average. Therefore, elderly exercise contributes significantly to lower random blood sugar levels of patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Elderly integrated service post of Belotan Bendo Magetan (p-value = 0.000).
In conclusion, there is a significant effect of elderly exercise on random blood sugar levels of patients with type 2 Diabetes mellitus in Elderly integrated service post of Belotan Bendo Magetan .
Therefore, public knowledge and awareness to carry out physical exercise especially elderly exercise must be increased in order to control blood sugar levels of patients with type 2 Diabetes mellitus, it needs support from health department and related agencies.
