Chronic low self-esteem is a negative feeling towards oneself that can cause various negative impacts on a person's life such as loss of confidence, pessimism, feelings of worthlessness, tendency to compare oneself to others, difficulties in social relationships, depression and anxiety. If left untreated, these conditions can escalate into more severe conditions, including sensory perception disorders, violent behaviors, and social isolation. This case study aims to understand how to provide psychiatric nursing care to Schizophrenia patients with chronic low self-esteem nursing problems. The method applied in this case study is a descriptive method with a nursing process approach that includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation and evaluation.
The results of the assessment showed that the patient felt embarrassed, useless, and inferior. From this assessment, a gap was found with the theory, so the nursing diagnosis set was chronic low self-esteem. Nursing implementation was carried out for 4 days, starting from SP 1-4, which aimed to improve the patient's perception of their abilities. The evaluation results showed achievements in accordance with the established evaluation criteria, as evidenced by activities such as making the bed, cleaning the bed area, helping share snacks with other patients, and singing exercises carried out independently or with the help of a nurse. The nursing care provided succeeded in increasing the patient's self-esteem, making him more courageous to do positive things.
