THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY MARRIAGE EDUCATION ON INCREASING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT EARLY MARRIAGE

One of the challenges experienced by adolescents today is the phenomenon of early marriage. School age (adolescents) who still lack understanding regarding the definition, causes, impacts and efforts to prevent early marriage are very at risk of facing things that will happen in the future if the early marriage is carried out. Therefore, it is necessary to provide knowledge about the mature age of marriage, one of which is by providing education about early marriage. This study aims to determine whether early marriage education is effective in increasing knowledge in students at SMPN 1 Ngrayun.

This study used a pre-experiment design with one group pre-posttest design. The study population was 60 grade 9 students at SMPN 1 Ngrayun with a sample of 38 students obtained through proportional random sampling. This study used lecture method with powerpoint media. The research data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test with a significance level of <0.05.

The results showed that before education about early marriage, most of them had a sufficient level of knowledge as many as 35 respondents (92.1%) and 2 respondents had a poor level of knowledge (7.9%). Meanwhile, after being given education, 37 respondents (97.4%) had a good level of knowledge. Meanwhile, as many as 1 respondent (2.4%) had a level of knowledge that was still classified as sufficient. Based on statistical tests with the Wilcoxon signed rank test obtained a pvalue of 0.000 < α (0.05) so that H1 is accepted, that early marriage education is effective in increasing knowledge about early marriage at SMPN 1 Ngrayun. There is an increase in knowledge in 9th grade students at SMPN 1 Ngrayun regarding the definition of early marriage, causal factors, impacts and prevention efforts in minimizing the occurrence of early marriage.
