Abstract
Abstract
One of the components in the braking system is the brake pad. Coconut shells have excellent durability properties, high hardness properties and resistance to erosion. Ironwood particle composites derived from organic materials with epoxy binding have several advantages among others, resistant to oil and corrosion and easy to mix, are expected to be an alternative replacement for brake pads in the future. In this research process there is a Wear test using the Ogoshi Universal Wear Testing Machine Type OAT-U. The test findings show that the inclusion of ironwood powder can reduce the level of wear. The most effective combination is determined as a mixture consisting of 15% coconut shell powder, 35% ironwood powder, 10% iron powder, and 40% epoxy resin, which produces an average wear value of 6.948 × 10-7mm²/kg. Therefore, the addition of ironwood powder in the combination results in an increase in the hardness of the test specimen and a reduction in the wear rate.
