Abstract

Babies who are classified as low birth weight (LBW) are babies who weigh less than the normal birth weight, which is 2,500 grams. Due to poor metabolism, a non-functioning heat regulation center, and a lack of muscle mass and subcutaneous fat to store heat, LBW babies are susceptible to hypothermia and will quickly lose body heat.
A nursing problem that often aries is hypothermia, so non-pharmacological management needed, one of which is the application of the use os Nesting.This case study aims to implement the use of Nesting LBW patients with hyphotermia nursing problems. The method used is descriptive in the form of a case study using one case of managed patients. Nursing care for LBW patients was carried out at Dr. Sayidiman Magetan Hospital for 4 counsecutive days for at least 30 minutes.
Based on the result of the implementation of the use of Nesting for four days and done for at least 30 minutes there is an increase in the baby’s body temperature. Babies who experience hypothermia will spend caloriesto warm their body temperature stable and normal. On the first day of implementation until the last day there there is an increase in temperature ranging from 0,5◦C. Babies how have had the installation Nesting minimizing the baby’s movement and save the energy expended by the baby so that it can increase the body temperature of a baby experiencing hypothermia.
Implementation Nesting can be used as a non-pharmacologicalt technique or independent intervention in LBW patiens who experience hypothermia because the application of Nesting is very easy to do and does not require any costs.
