APPLICATION OF SUCTION IN PATIENTS WITH RESPIRATORY FAILURE ON VENTILATOR WITH NURSING PROBLEMS OF INEFFECTIVE AIRWAYS CLEARANCE

Secretion accumulation often occurs in patients with respiratory failure on ventilators. One way to overcome this is with suction. This case study aims to provide nursing care to Mr. S with nursing problems of ineffective airway clearance in the ICU room of Darmayu General Hospital, Ponorogo.
The method used is the nursing process approach to Mr. S who experienced respiratory failure and was on a ventilator with nursing problems of ineffective airway clearance. Data collection for 5 days (July 15-19, 2024). Suction actions for 4 days with a frequency of once every 2 hours. The instruments used are pre- and post-suction observation sheets.
The results of the assessment obtained the client's level of consciousness Coma, GCS 1X2, SPO2 89%, sputum is white, soft consistency on the ETT and rhonchi throughout the lung fields. On the 5th day evaluation, it was found that the client's ineffective airway clearance was resolved as evidenced by the client's level of consciousness increasing to apathetic, GCS 445, SPO2 increasing to 98%, no sputum and no rhonchi. So it can be concluded that the suction performed effectively overcomes the nursing problem of ineffective airway clearance.
One way that nurses in the ICU can use to overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance in patients with respiratory failure who are on a ventilator is suction.
