Abstract

Determining a major at the high school level is an important step in helping students develop their academic potential. However, based on observations at SMAN 1 Sambit, the majority of students choose majors based solely on peer influence, which risks hindering their development. In addition, the process of determining majors is still done manually, making it prone to subjectivity and inaccuracy in decision making. To overcome this problem, a computer-based Decision Support System (DSS) is needed to increase objectivity and efficiency in selecting majors. The Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method is one method that can be applied in DSS because it is able to provide rankings based on the weight of predetermined criteria. With this method, the system can provide more accurate recommendations for majors according to the abilities and interests of students, thus supporting a more optimal learning process.
