Abstract

ABSTRACT
APPLICATION OF DEEP BREATHING RELAXATION TECHNIQUES USING LAVENDER AROMATHERAPY IN HYPERTENSION PATIENTS WITH ANXIETY NURSING PROBLEMS
AT MUHAMMADIYAH PONOROGO RSU

By
Azhari Abdullah Aziz
Hypertension is still a non-communicable disease problem globally and one of the chronic diseases which cannot be cured and can only be prevented from developing by modifying the risk factors for its occurrence. A person diagnosed with hypertension experiences anxiety or even depression. Anxiety is a subjective feeling of anxious mental tension as a general reaction to the inability to overcome problems and a lack of feeling safe. Non-pharmacological efforts that can be made to overcome this are by practicing breathing relaxation techniques with lavender aromatherapy which contains elements of self-soothing and has the benefit of reducing anxiety, stabilizing high blood pressure, heart rate, metabolic rate, overcoming sleep disorders (insomnia), reducing pain. joints and stress.
This research was conducted on 31 August 2024 – 15 November 2024 in the Darwis Room at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. The respondent is Mr M with hypertension who is experiencing anxiety nursing problems and will be applying deep breathing relaxation therapy with lavender aromatherapy. Anxiety measurement uses the HARS scale. The collection instrument uses a nursing care format
From the results of Mr M assessment, the patient said he was still dizzy, anxious, scared and uneasy about the illness he was experiencing and the medical treatment that would be carried out. The intervention is the application of deep breathing relaxation therapy with lavender aromatherapy to overcome anxiety. The results of the implementation show that after implementation for 5 consecutive days, the problems that occurred with clients changed for the better, as indicated by a decrease in anxiety levels from a score of 21 (moderate) to a score of 14 (mild). Based on the objective and subjective data available from Mr M, the researcher concluded that the anxiety nursing problem related to the client's hypertension could be reduced. It is hoped that this case study can provide an overview and become a reference in the application of deep breathing relaxation therapy with lavender aromatherapy to treat anxiety in hypertensive patients.
