Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that requires family members to provide care to maintain health, which is often ineffective. The purpose of this paper is to determine the description of family nursing care for patients with diabetes mellitus who have ineffective health maintenance nursing problems.
This study uses a case analysis method with descriptive writing techniques, and the subjects of this study are families with diabetes mellitus. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive narrative analysis.
Nursing care for Mrs. J was provided on 20, 21, and 22 February 2025. Mrs. J, who suffers from Diabetes Mellitus, and her family were unable to accompany her for check-ups or attend the elderly health clinic. The nursing diagnosis established was ineffective health maintenance related to the inability to manage individual/elderly issues. The nursing outcome of health maintenance showed improved criteria. The nursing intervention involved health education. Based on the nursing intervention conducted on Mrs. J, the final evaluation concluded that the ineffective health maintenance had been resolved, and the intervention was discontinued.
The family plays a crucial role in caring for family members with diabetes, based on the patient's condition and awareness of the importance of an appropriate diet for diabetes mellitus, regular diabetes monitoring, and health check-ups to support and motivate the patient's recovery through health maintenance.
