Abstract
Sensory perception disturbances such as hallucinations are one of the main symptoms in clients with schizophrenia. Hallucinations that are not properly managed can affect the client's social responses and cognitive functions. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of horticultural therapy in reducing hallucinations in schizophrenia patients at Wijaya Kusuma Ward, Dr. Harjono Ponorogo Regional Hospital.
The method used is a case study with a nursing care approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention provided is horticultural therapy for 2 weeks, lasting 1-2 hours, three times a week. The instrument used to measure hallucinations is the AHRS (Auditory Hallucinations Rating Scale) and the observation sheet.
The results of the application showed a decrease in hallucinations in Mrs. D after receiving horticultural therapy intervention, marked by the pre and post observation scores rising from 4 (not passed) to 11 (passed), as well as the AHRS (Auditory Hallucinations Rating Scale) score decreasing from 26 (controlling stage) to 11 (comforting stage), and the sensory perception disturbance problem (auditory hallucinations) in Mrs. D was stated to be resolved on the 5th day.
Horticultural therapy has been proven to help clients recognize, manage, and respond to hallucinations in a more adaptive manner. It can be concluded that horticultural therapy is an effective intervention in reducing the intensity and impact of hallucinations in patients with mental disorders.
