Abstract

Intravenous fluid monitoring is a crucial component of healthcare services to ensure that patients receive fluids according to their needs and to prevent delays in treatment caused by depleted infusion fluids. Manual monitoring methods have limitations in terms of efficiency and timeliness; therefore, an automated technology-based system is needed. This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based infusion monitoring system capable of monitoring infusion conditions in real time and providing automatic alerts. The system utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller, a load cell sensor to measure fluid mass, and an infrared sensor to detect the infusion drip rate. The measured data are displayed on an LCD and transmitted to the Blynk IoT application for remote monitoring. The system is also equipped with a buzzer and notifications as early warning signals when the fluid level reaches the minimum threshold. The test results show that the system performs well in monitoring infusion conditions in real time. The information displayed on the LCD and Blynk IoT application is synchronized, with a data transmission delay of approximately 300 ms, which remains within an acceptable range despite being affected by internet connection stability. The proposed system can improve the efficiency of infusion monitoring and assist healthcare professionals in maintaining patient safety. Further testing on a larger scale in hospital environments involving various patient conditions is required to evaluate the system's reliability and performance.
