Abstract
Hyperuricemia is a condition characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the blood, which may lead to various complications. Compliance with a low-purine diet is one of the important strategies to control uric acid levels. However, dietary compliance remains a challenge and is influenced by several factors, including patients' knowledge. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between patients' knowledge of a low-purine diet and dietary compliance among hyperuricemia patients in the working area of Dagangan Public Health Center, Madiun Regency.
This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 85 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using knowledge and low-purine dietary compliance questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman Rho test with a significance level of α = 0.05.
The results showed that 34 respondents (40%) had a moderate level of knowledge, 33 respondents (38.8%) had a good level of knowledge, and 18 respondents (21.2%) had a low level of knowledge. Most respondents were compliant with the low-purine diet, accounting for 44 respondents (51.8%). The Spearman Rho test revealed a p-value < 0.001 with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.599. The analysis indicated a significant positive relationship with a moderate correlation strength between patients' knowledge of a low-purine diet and dietary compliance. The better the patients' knowledge, the higher their compliance with the low-purine diet. Therefore, continuous health education is necessary to improve dietary compliance and help control uric acid levels among hyperuricemia patients.
