Abstract
An unhealthy lifestyle, such as poor dietary patterns and low daily fiber
intake, can lead to metabolic disorders like prediabetes, factors that can affect
blood glucose levels in the body. This study aims to determine the relationship
between daily fiber consumption and blood glucose levels in prediabetic patients in
Ngampel Village, Balong Subdistrict, Ponorogo.
This study used a cross-sectional design with a total sampling technique
involving 34 prediabetic patients. Daily fiber consumption was measured using a
questionnaire, while blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer. The
relationship between variables was analyzed using Spearman's rho test at a
significance level of 0.05.
The results showed that most respondents (70.6%) had good daily fiber
consumption, while the remainder (29.4%) fell into the adequate category. Most
respondents' blood glucose levels (79.4%) were within the range of 140–199 mg/dL.
The Spearman's rho test showed a correlation coefficient of -0.417 with a
significance value of 0.014 (p<0.05), indicating a negative relationship, meaning
the higher the fiber consumption, the lower the blood glucose level.
These results indicate that low daily fiber consumption can contribute to
unstable blood glucose levels in prediabetic patients. Better fiber consumption
leads to better-controlled blood glucose levels, so increasing fiber intake can be
one strategy to prevent the progression of prediabetes to diabetes.
