Low student learning motivation and limited interactive learning media on the topic of geometric similarity make students less interested and less active in the learning process. Therefore, learning media that create engaging learning experiences and support student motivation are needed. This study aimed to develop a mathematics learning medium called “Shaporia” using Articulate Storyline 3 for the topic of geometric similarity and to determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in terms of student learning motivation.
This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, consisting of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The product trial involved 30 students from Class VII C at SMP Negeri 3 Ponorogo. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The research instruments included validation sheets completed by material and media experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, and a learning motivation questionnaire based on the ARCS indicators. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis techniques.
The results showed that this study developed the “Shaporia” learning medium using Articulate Storyline 3 for the topic of geometric similarity to support student motivation. The developed medium includes learning materials, videos, practice exercises, gamification features, and evaluation activities. Validation results were 94% from the material expert and 89% from the media expert, categorised as highly valid. Practicality results were 98% from the teacher and 85% from the students, categorised as highly practical. The effectiveness test produced an average learning motivation score of 67, categorised as very high. Based on the ARCS indicators, the average scores were 16.90 for Attention, 16.23 for Relevance, 16.90 for Confidence, and 16.96 for Satisfaction. These findings indicate that the medium attracts students’ attention, provides relevant learning experiences, increases confidence, and enhances satisfaction. Therefore, the “Shaporia” learning medium is valid, practical, and effective for teaching geometric similarity.
