Abstract

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is caused by increased levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the aging process. Pain is a common complaint experienced by patients after surgery due to tissue damage, which may lead to hematuria and dysuria. This study aimed to determine nursing care for postoperative Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) patients with acute pain nursing problems in K.H. Mas Mansyur Ward, Muhammadiyah General Hospital Ponorogo. This study used a problem-solving method with a nursing process approach consisting of assessment, data analysis, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The research design was descriptive with one postoperative BPH patient experiencing acute pain. Assessment was conducted from May 4 to May 8, 2026. The assessment results showed that the patient appeared grimacing and avoiding movement, was on the first postoperative day with a three-way catheter, had a blood pressure of 160/102 mmHg, pulse rate of 110 beats/minute, respiratory rate of 22 breaths/minute, body temperature of 37°C, oxygen saturation (SpO₂) of 97%, and a pain scale score of 7. The nursing diagnosis established was acute pain related to physical injury agents from the surgical procedure. Nursing interventions included identifying pain characteristics, providing a comfortable environment, encouraging appropriate use of analgesics, and implementing dhikr therapy. Evaluation results indicated a reduction in pain intensity and improvement in the patient's condition.. Patients were advised to attend follow-up visits on schedule, take medications as prescribed by the physician, and perform dhikr to help alleviate postoperative pain. Through appropriate assessment and analgesic administration, Nurses play an important role in monitoring patients' conditions and providing education to ensure adherence to treatment, timely follow-up visits, and the application of spiritual techniques to support the recovery process.
