THE EFFECT OF HEALTH LITERACY BASED ON EDUCATIONAL
VIDEOS ON HEALTH MANAGEMENT OF ISCHEMIC STROKE PATIENTS IN THE REHABILITATION PHASE

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of disability that requires optimal health management during the rehabilitation phase. Low health literacy can hinder the success of rehabilitation, so effective educational media is needed. This study aims to analyze the effect of health literacy based on educational videos on the health management of ischemic stroke patients in the rehabilitation phase at RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo and to compare its effectiveness with direct counseling.
This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest with control group approach. The sample consisted of 82 respondents selected using purposive sampling, with 41 respondents in the intervention group and 41 respondents in the control group. The research instrument used a questionnaire.
The Health Management Assessment Scale (HMAS) was adapted into 10 items. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that both groups improved their health management after the intervention (p = 0.001). The educational video group showed a higher improvement, with 92.7% of respondents in the very good category. The Mann–Whitney test showed a significant difference in effectiveness between the two methods (p = 0.001). In conclusion, video-based health literacy is more effective than direct counseling in improving health management of ischemic stroke patients in the rehabilitation phase.
