Abstract

Febrile seizures in children are a condition resulting from uncontrolled body temperature elevation, leading to thermoregulation disturbances and the risk of complications. A frequently encountered nursing issue is ineffective thermoregulation associated with an infectious process.
This study employed a case study method utilizing the nursing process approach, comprising assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Nursing care was administered over three days to a child medically diagnosed with febrile seizures and ineffective thermoregulation at the Ar. Fahrudin Ward of RSU Muhammadiyah Ponorogo from May 2 to May 4, 2026.
Assessment findings revealed two seizure episodes (lasting approximately one minute) accompanied by fever and fluctuating body temperature; the skin felt hot and appeared flushed, the pulse rate was elevated, and the patient appeared weak and pale. The primary nursing diagnosis was ineffective thermoregulation related to the disease process. Interventions included monitoring vital signs and fever-related complications, administering tepid sponging, adjusting clothing, increasing fluid intake, and collaborating on pharmacological therapy. Evaluation after three days showed a stable body temperature, the absence of recurrent seizures or shivering, and an improvement in the patient's general condition.
Comprehensive and collaborative nursing interventions proved effective in managing the thermoregulation disturbance. Monitoring body temperature, implementing non-pharmacological interventions, and providing family education are essential to support recovery and prevent recurrence.
