Every married couple aspires to build a harmonious household based on sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. Harmony within a household is built by the couple themselves. In maintaining a marriage, the problems that arise can serve as challenges that test the strength of the relationship. A strong foundation enables couples to overcome difficulties, while a weak foundation may make them more vulnerable to marital problems. These problems can be resolved when couples support, understand, appreciate, and respect one another. Communication and trust are also important factors in maintaining marital harmony. When marital problems cannot be resolved, they may weaken the foundation of the marriage and eventually lead to divorce. Divorce refers to the dissolution of a marriage. This study examines divorce cases occurring in Trenggalek. The study aims to identify the factors contributing to divorce, the number of divorce cases, and the efforts undertaken by the Trenggalek Religious Court to reduce the divorce rate. The researcher employed an empirical research method through observation, interviews, and the collection of field data. The results indicate that economic factors are the main cause of the high divorce rate in Trenggalek. In 2025, a total of 1,811 divorce cases were recorded at the Trenggalek Religious Court. The efforts undertaken by the Trenggalek Religious Court to reduce the divorce rate include conducting mediation and tightening the requirements for filing for divorce.
