Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology has brought significant changes to people's lives, particularly in the use of social media. Despite its various benefits, social media can also have negative impacts in the form of *cyberbullying*, which may cause psychological, social, and even legal harm to its victims. Cyberbullying can be described as bullying carried out through electronic media with the intention of hurting, humiliating, intimidating, or continuously attacking another person. Therefore, effective legal protection for victims of cyberbullying on social media is necessary. This study is entitled “Legal Protection for Victims of Cyberbullying on Social Media.” The research problems examine how cyberbullying is regulated under Indonesian law, what forms of legal protection are available to victims of cyberbullying on social media, and what legal remedies victims can pursue to obtain justice and restore their rights. This study employs normative legal research using a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The legal materials consist of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials, which are analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study show that cyberbullying in Indonesia has not been specifically regulated under a single piece of legislation. However, relevant provisions can be found in several legal instruments, including Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law), as amended by Law No. 1 of 2024, the Criminal Code, and other regulations related to the protection of human rights and children. Legal protection for victims of cyberbullying on social media can be pursued through preventive and repressive measures. Preventive measures include digital literacy education, supervision of social media use, and increasing public legal awareness. Repressive measures include law enforcement, the imposition of criminal sanctions on perpetrators, and the restoration of victims' rights. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that legal protection for victims of cyberbullying on social media remains vulnerable to several serious challenges, including limited public awareness, weak law enforcement, and the absence of specific legislation regulating cyberbullying. Therefore, more specific regulations are needed, along with stronger cooperation among the government, law enforcement authorities, social media platforms, and the public to provide optimal legal protection for victims of cyberbullying.
